1. Solutions to move specific inventory

Looking to drive attention to specific vehicles, makes or models? With two of our marketing products, you can now promote your inventory more intelligently with targeted strategies described below.

New Highlight Strategy: VIN Level

Dealers with Highlight can now use a VIN level strategy to boost visibility on specific inventory. From your Dashboard’s Highlight page, select up to 10 VINs (new or used) per Highlight pack to promote in prime spots on CarGurus’ SRP. This allows you to maximize exposure for the vehicles you want to prioritize.

RPM Test

Dealers using RPM can now run targeted social media campaigns tailored to your marketing and sales strategies. Choose from these options:  

  • Used and/or new vehicles
  • Specific make/models (or all)
  • Certified Pre-Owned (CPO)

2. View Sell My Car Matrix Rules

For dealers using Sell My Car, you can now view your complete Matrix settings in your Dashboard, including custom rules. To make updates to your Matrix, reach out to your account manager or email sellmycarsupport@cargurus.com.

3. SRP Changes

We recently removed the ‘Choose how to shop’ filter on the SRP and replaced it with a new 'Location & Delivery' section that includes a delivery toggle. This update addresses consumer feedback and aims to make the shopping experience easier. No impact to Geo Expansion (Area Boost) leads is expected.

Best Match Sort Update

Starting on 11/13, the default ‘Best Match’ sort order subtly and selectively mixes Fair Deals alongside Good and Great Deals at the top of the organic (not sponsored) search results. This update is designed to help shoppers find the most relevant inventory for them, not just the lowest priced vehicles. For you, this means connecting with higher-intent consumers and more opportunities to maintain margin on Fair Deals.

What to know about this update:

  • Pricing: Pricing vehicles competitively remains essential, as Deal Ratings continue to play a key role in both the sort algorithm and for consumers.
  • Algorithm factors: Beyond price, the algorithm analyzes vehicle details (e.g. make, model, mileage, year, color, trim, options, and CPO status) that consumers engage with most to surface the most relevant inventory in real-time. Dealer factors, such as reviews and the services a dealer subscribes to are also considered.
  • Merchandising: Listings missing photos rank lower in the search results while those with 21-30 high-quality photos are most likely to receive leads. Missing trim and options may result in consumers choosing competing listings, so be sure to update these details in your IMS and CarGurus Pricing Tool. Set up the Merchandising Health report to receive alerts on vehicles that need improvement.
  • Enhanced exposure for Featured Listings: For Featured+ and Featured Priority+ dealers with guaranteed visibility of Fair, Good, and Great Deals in the top 3 spots of the SRP, this change allows for even more chances of their Fair Deals to appear higher in the search results.

Upcoming Tests in Q4

In Q4, we are testing new SRP design updates, including listing tile badges and filters, to enhance the consumer experience and improve lead conversion. We’ll share additional details if these changes become permanent.
